Street works along Sądowa Street

Starting from tomorrow, i.e. 7 July, the pavement along Sądowa Street, from Matejki Street to Goeppert-Meyer Street, will be closed to pedestrians. Disruption results from the plans to connect the building at 7 Sądowa Street to the heat network. The works and reorganisation of pedestrian traffic in this area are carried out on behalf of Tauron Ciepło sp. z o.o. The works in this area are expected to take around 4-6weeks.

‘Connecting buildings to the district heating reduces low emissions and improves air quality in our city. However,  such investments cannot be implemented without diverting traffic, especially in the city centre where we have high density areas.  Access to the bus station at Sądowa Street from Galeria Katowicka will be possible via Matejki Street and Wolności Square. On behalf of the contractor, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask for your understanding,’ says Ewa Lipka, deputy head of the Social Communication Department of Katowice City Hall. ‘Those who need to travel between the railway station and the International Bus Station at Sądowa Street can use free buses provided for this route. We encourage them to choose this option,’ Lipka adds.

The works on the heat network will also include a short section of Matejki Street, from the junction with Sądowa Street. Pedestrian traffic will be continued along Mikołowska and Matejki streets and diverted to a footway, and the pavement where no works are planned.
